University of North Texas Presser Scholar, Ashley Mendeke, is currently in her final year as a Flute Performance and Music Education Major, where she studies with Mary Karen Clardy. Previously, she has performed piccolo as a member of the Concert Orchestra and Flute with the Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra while at UNT. Recipient of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund's National Academic Scholarship for three consecutive years, Ashley has also been awarded music and academic scholarships at UNT, winner of the Sigma Alpha Iota Triennial Performance Award (woodwind division), winner of the 2008-2009 Sigma Alpha Iota Denton Alumnae Chapter's Performance Scholarship, and winner of the 2010 TMTA Young Artist Competition.

Mr. Cox has been playing trumpet since 1963 and has studied with some of America's foremost trumpet players including Harry Glantz (Principal, New York Philharmonic) and Alan Hoel (Lead Trumpet, Sammy Spear Orchestra.) He earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami, where he studied with Frederick Fennell, Alfred Reed and Clifton Williams. Additionally, he has earned a Master of Arts (Central Michigan University) and a Master of Business Administration (University of Bridgeport.)

A freelance performer in the Dallas area, Mr. Cox is also a record producer and martial arts master. Actively teaching since 1990, he has been teaching private lessons in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD since 2002.

 

Andrea Mayfield - French Horn

Upon completing degrees from Ball State University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in music performance, Andrea began her performance career as 3rd/Associate Principal Horn of the Orquesta Sinfonica Sinaloa de Las Artes, located in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. She held that position for the past four years and has just recently moved back to the United States.
Andrea has also played with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Marion Symphony Orchestra, Anderson Symphony Orchestra, and the American Wind Symphony, among others. She was an active freelance musician in the greater Indianapolis, IN area.
Andrea hopes to maintain an active performance career while she starts up her teaching studio in the Dallas area.

Wes Woodrow - Low Brass

Wesley Woodrow studied music education at Northeast Louisiana University. His professional playing career spans 37 years in virtually all performance areas. He has performed with the Monroe Symphony, East Texas Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, Las Colinas, Garland, Arlington, and Fort Worth Symphonies. Mr. Woodrow is the lead trombone in the Casa Manana Musicals in Fort Worth, and Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo band. Other performances are with the Festival Brass Quintet, and area big bands. Currently he is active in Dallas area recording studios and a low brass instructor for the Garland and Carrollton school districts.

 

Keith A. Umbach - Percussion

Mr. Umbach has a Masters Degree from the University of North Texas in Jazz Studies and an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Mr. Umbach is starting his 20th year as a part of the CFB school district. Mr. Umbach is also member of the music faculty at Brookhaven College. Mr. Umbach will also be teaching applied lessons for Creekview High School and Blalack Middle School. Prior to coming to Brookhaven, Mr. Umbach was a band director at Newman Smith High School, in Carrollton / Farmers-Branch ISD. Mr. Umbach is a free-lance drumset artist, percussionist, and jazz educator in throughout the D/FW metroplex.
